Inconsiderate Parking of Vehicles

Help us tackle parking problems in the village

Pavement parking forces people with wheelchairs, buggies and those living with sight loss into the road and into oncoming traffic. Disabled and older people feel trapped in their homes because there isn’t enough room on the pavement for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. The most vulnerable pedestrians continue to be put at risk of injury and isolation every day that this dangerous act continues.

Likewise, inconsiderate parking of vehicles near junctions or other areas that restrict the view of passing vehicles and thereby risk road accidents.

Great Houghton Parish Council regularly receives complaints from pedestrians having their way obstructed and drivers being unable to see past vehicles through inconsiderate parking of vehicles on pavements and at junctions or blind spots.

The council would much prefer to seek the cooperation and understanding of all motorists in ensuring that pavements and roads are not blocked or restricted by inconsiderate parking of vehicles, rather than having to revert to the enforcement of legislation.
